Elena and Meredith realize that Alaric’s ring makes him commit murders. Throughout the season, Elena and Damon grow more closer and they both make each other better. Elena helps Damon to overcome his demons and make him feel human again while Damon inspires Elena, challenging and making her question who she really is. Eventually, Elena realizes she is in love with Damon, but is reluctant and unwilling to admit her feelings even though everyone is aware of their obvious feelings for each other from friends to enemies.
Elena and Caroline call Damon to inform him about this and he asks them to bring a witch. When they reach the Salvatore house, Damon and Elena have an awkward post-break up reunion. Caroline and Enzo leave them alone and eavesdrop their conversation from another room.
First, Caroline was jealous of Elena because of the fact everybody liked her, and Stefan dated her and not Caroline. Then, in a later season, Elena tried to kill Caroline, something they barely talked about afterward. For the so-called friends, they sure had a lot of bad blood between them. Even though she later left the show and only came back for the final episode, Elena Gilbert, played by the Canadian-Bulgarian actress Nina Dobrev, was an integral part of The Vampire Diaries. Unfortunately, Damon and Elena’s daughter does not appear in Legacies.
Though Elena was killed by Klaus while Tatia was killed by Elijah. Elena’s character in the novels is quite different from her character in the TV series, both in appearance and in personality. While in the TV series Elena has dark hair, brown eyes and an olive complexion, in the novels she has an ‘angelic’ physical appearance, with golden hair, blue eyes and fair skin. Season 1
A spell is revealed that can save everyone and kill the Travelers at the same time. By gathering The Travelers at The Grill and by igniting an explosion, it will kill them and activate the spell necessary to bring everyone back to life. However, Damon reveals to Elena that someone has to ignite the explosion in order to activate the spell and Damon volunteers himself to ignite the explosion. Elena is highly against his decision, wanting a future together. However, much to Damon’s surprise, Elena decides join him to ignited the explosion and both died together to bring everyone back.

The show’s popularity launched the careers of actors like Nina Dobrev, Kat Graham, and Candice Accola King. When Bonnie breaks the spell and wakes Elena up, she and Damon reunite. They take the cure and become human together, which is what Elena had always wanted. However, unknown to Elena, Damon actually met her first before Stefan on the night her parents died. Damon noticed Elena, believing her to be Katherine, but quickly realised the truth. They talk about her relationship with Matt and Damon goes into say that Elena wants a real love that has everything.
Season 4: Elena Chooses Stefan, But Becomes A Vampire And Chooses Damon
Later, Elijah shows up at the lake house and Elena wants to renegotiate, asking him to promise not to harm anyone. Elijah is able to enter Elena’s house by winning favor with Jenna. He tells her of his plans to use Elena as bait to lure Klaus out of hiding so that he can kill him, in return for keeping those she loves safe.
Elena will only wake up when Bonnie dies in around 60 years. She was locked inside the Salvatore tomb, then relocated to a warehouse in Brooklyn, New York in the seventh season, then back to Mystic Falls. In late 2016, when it was announced that the eighth season would be the final season, Dobrev was in talks about returning to the television series to reprise her role in the final episode.
